Attorney ProfileMeet Indiana Lawyer Margaret Royce GalvinWhen you are struggling with legal problems related to estate planning, probate administration or a non-probate transfer of assets, it is important to understand all of your options. Once you have relevant information, you can make informed decisions. With nearly 40 years of experience representing clients throughout Lake County and surrounding areas in Indiana, I have the information to help you. At my firm, you can be assured that I will take the time to understand your situation, educate you about your options and assist you in making important decisions that affect your future and your loved ones. A graduate of John Marshall Law School, I began my legal career as a law clerk for a federal judge before turning to litigation. Since 1990, I have focused my practice on the areas of estate planning and probate administration. In 1996, I earned an advanced law degree (LL.M.) in Taxation from John Marshall Law School. This advanced training allows me to better identify, analyze and explain the tax ramifications involved in estate planning and probate administration. Because I have a thorough understanding of different types of tax liability and the assets that are subject to that liability, I can help you develop strategies that preserve assets and minimize tax liability. I grew up in Griffith and have lived in Hammond for the last three decades. In addition to my law practice, I have been deeply involved in service to the community. I was a member of the Hammond Redevelopment Commission for 20 years. I have also served as Corporation Counsel for the City of Hammond, where I provided legal counsel to the mayor. I am admitted to practice in all Indiana state courts, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. I am a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, and the Probate Sections of both.
